BioAgri cluster planned at Dharwad

Mr Ashok C Manoli, Karnataka’s chief biotech policy maker, said Karnataka had announced a revised Millennium Biotech Policy in late 2009 which seeks to promote aggressive growth of the industry in the state.

The state was developing bioclusters outside Bangalore to promote other cities such as Dharwad (BioAgri cluster), Mysore (nutraceuticals hub), Bidar (animal nutrition). The state also plans to select 10 biotech educational institutions based on stringent criteria and assist them with resources to convert them into “biotech finishing schools” to generate ready-to-induct human resources by the industry.
