How are Hubli / Dharwad / Davangere connected to Bangalore?

The current railway line from Hubli to Bangalore goes via Haveri - Davangere - Birur - Kadur - Arsikere - Tiptur - Tumkur.

The fastest train on this route is the Jan Shatabdi Express which takes around 7 hours to cover a distance of 470 kilometres from Hubli to Bangalore.

The time table for 2080 from Hubli to Bangalore is reproduced below for the sake of analysis.
HUBLI - 2.00pm - 0km
Haveri - 2.59pm - 76km
Davangere - 4.09pm - 144km
Chikjajur - 4.44pm - 190km
Birur - 5.40pm - 259km
Arsikere - 6.20pm - 304km
Tumkur - 7.35pm - 400km
Bangalore - 9.10pm - 469km

From, Hubli to Haveri for a distance of 76kms, the train takes 59 minutes. The average speed for this train can then be maintained at around 75kms per hour.

From Hubli to Davangere for a distance of 144kms, the train takes 129 minutes. Again the average speed is around 75kms per hour.

From Davangere to Tumkur, the distance is 256 kms and takes around 3.5 hours. This distance can be cut short by having a new line from Davangere to Tumkur via Chitradurga which should be around 150 kms to 170kms only, thus reducing the travel time from Davangere to Tumkur to just 2.5 hours.

The total travel time from Hubli to Bangalore, thus gets reduced to 6 hours.

Apart from this the time taken to travel from Tumkur to Bangalore is around 90 minutes for a distance of 69 kms, which is quite higher. This can be reduced to around 1 hour

The total travel time from Hubli to Bangalore, thus gets reduced to 5.5 hours.

Apart from this, if the the railway line is made into a double line then the travel time can be cut short to just 5 hours.

Just imagine, reaching Bangalore in 5 hours flat!!!

Will that not be something good?


So what the authorities need to do
1. Take up a new line from Davangere to Tumkur via Chitradurga
2. Take up doubling of Hubli - Bangalore rail line
3. Reduce travel time from Tumkur to Bangalore to 1 hour.
